About

We are She SUPs - a stand-up paddleboarding community that aims to empower women (cis, trans) and gender minorities through SUP lessons, online courses, SUP socials and multi-day SUP trips.

With women’s interest in stand-up paddle boarding at an all time high since the COVID19 pandemic, and the She SUPs message and ethos resonating with women across the country, we are seeking individuals to join our growing team to help us reach thousands more women from across Australia, from a range of backgrounds, and help empower them through SUP adventures and SUP education. Find out more about how She SUPs started here!

Doing things differently

She SUPs is not a SUP school/business in the traditional sense. We like to think we’ve carved out our own unique corner of the outdoors industry delivering not only day tours and lessons, but overnight trips and expeditions that are truly soul-warming, we have developed a growing online community platform which our paddlers describe as ‘feeling like a family’ and we provide online education resources such as our online course to empower women with knowledge and skills to do-it-themselves and spend more time outdoors. We are a ‘profit for good’ business. Giving back and making a positive impact of the world is what drives us. As our community grows, we recognise that we can utilise our collective power for good and we love to work together to support causes that matter to us and our community. We are a highly empathetic and compassionate team who aim to ensure every individual feels supported and empowered through every interaction with us (both on and off the water). We host boutique bucket-list experience SUP trips but will only work with third-party businesses who align with our values and ethos. And we actively facilitate connections between our paddlers to ensure everyone feels welcome and part of our wonderful community.

Culture & Values

The She SUPs team are:

  • Highly creative - we are innovators in the industry

  • FUN - laughter and fun is central to what we do and how we work

  • Honest and compassionate - we are a team of highly empathetic individuals

  • Forward thinkers and problem solvers

  • Passionate - everyone has a fire in their belly to make a positive impact in the world

  • Adventurous and love the outdoors

  • Forever an optimist - working in a weather dependent industry has its challenges, so optimism is key. We live by the phrase “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only being under prepared!”

Roles Currently Available:

Trip & Retreat Hosts (NSW, VIC & SE QLD)

*UPDATED* Trip & Retreat Host is a casual hosting and co-guiding role (trips normally run for 3 days in each location and each trip has an individual trip rate that is discussed before its assigned). We are seeking 4-6 individuals (based in either NSW, VIC or SE QLD) with prior hosting or co-guiding experience who are interested in hosting a minimum of 4 weekend trips a year between the months of October and June 2023/2024. Trip Locations seeking Trip Hosts include: Mornington Peninsula, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast, Snowy Mountains and Sydney.

Are you an amazing communicator who loves facilitating conversations?
Are you always found adventuring on the weekends and want to share your passion for adventure with others?
Do you have impeccable time management skills?
Are you a natural cheerleader for all?
If yes... we want to speak to you!!

As a She SUPs Trip Leader/Host you are the lead representative for She SUPs on a 3 day, 2 night overnight SUP trip. You ensure the itinerary runs smoothly, guests are happy and safe and you problem solve where needed if weather/other circumstances cause a last minute change in the itinerary (supported by Dellanie or Vikki at She SUPs). Your main focus is facilitating group connection, you're responsible for group wellbeing (making sure everyone is happy), taking photos of all the adventures with your phone so our guests don't have to think about it, facilitating card games in the evenings if conversation is slow and ensuring everyone feels included.

You will work alongside our third-party activity providers as their co-guide on the water and a representative from She SUPs. They are likely to look to you to provide them with a greater understanding of the guest’s feelings/needs/abilities on the day and to ensure everything runs to the itinerary’s timings. Food is mostly catered, so you will likely liaise with our catering to ensure the food arrives safely, and you may be required to set up an occasional cheese board and display the catered food in a nice way on plates/platters provided at the accommodation.

Your Responsibilities

Bringing the positive vibes!

You’re full of energy and radiate positivity, you’re able to bring humour and light to challenging situations. You are keen to take part in all the activities with enthusiasm, no matter the weather or conditions, and help others do the same.

Creating a welcoming and supportive environment

A friend to all, you will create an environment where guests feel comfortable and engaged within the group and ensure that everyone feels included, heard, and valued. You’ll help break the ice, step up when the group needs advisory or guidance, and you are observant and tuned in to others' experiences and able to pick up someone who feels uncomfortable or nervous. You are discreet and professional with guests’ private personal information.

On top of trip logistics

You are confident managing a trip itinerary with many moving parts. You feel comfortable staying on top of the itinerary so our guests don’t need to worry about it. They will rely on you to let them know what happens next, when breakfast is, what time to meet, what to bring for each activity etc. You are comfortable managing expectations when itineraries change due to weather conditions. You’ll communicate a debrief of the day as well as the plans and timings for the following day every evening.

Supporting others outside of their comfort zone and problem solving

With any plan, there is never a complete guarantee that things will go as you wanted. Some situations place you and others outside of your comfort zone, like windy days that can be exhausting or when rain arrives mid-paddle. Leading through hard moments requires a strong sense of perseverance matched with a confidence in your training and understanding. A strong trip host is someone who can utilise their technical skills, personal experience in the outdoors and their leadership skills to read their group’s physical, mental and emotional capacity in order to create an informed plan and help their crew reach their goal. You are cool, calm, and collected under pressure and can confidently and proactively address unpredictable issues from adverse weather to guests getting sick or injured. You might need to make decisions for the group and decide where you are best placed to be.

You’re passionate about standing up for gender equality and empowering women and gender minorities. We hope you’ll take pride in working for She SUPs, and actively seek to learn about what we’re working on, initiatives we hope to launch in future, and share this messaging with our guests.
