New Zealand SUP Expedition

📍Wānaka
We pay our respects and show gratitude to the
Rākaihautū and the Waitaha people who lit the first fires of occupation within Te Wai Pounamu (the South Island).

Prepare to be AMAZED. She SUPs is returning to New Zealand for our fifth year, on our unique custom-designed SUP expedition. If you have a SUP bucket list… this trip needs to be on it!!

We are so excited to return again to the beautiful South Island of New Zealand for a week of SUP exploration, cultural connection and relaxing mindful moments in stunning scenery. During this 6 day, 5 night trip all-women’s SUP trip, we will spend 3 days and 2 nights of this time on a SUP camping expedition on Lake Wanaka. Either side of this pioneering SUP expedition, we’ll explore Wanaka and Queenstown via foot, SUP and private vehicle, sample local produce at local wineries, and relax in a scenic onsen. This trip has a little something for everyone, and I guarantee you won’t be able to wipe the smile off your face as you retell all the incredible stories from your adventure.

STYLE/VIBE OF THE TRIP:

“I’m up for a true adventure featuring camping”
”I want to get into expedition paddling/ touring”
”I seek wild experiences”
“I’m ready to take on an amazing SUP experience with new friends”

SUP ABILITY LEVEL
(She SUPs trips range from Level 0-4 in SUP ability):

Level 2-3: You should be comfortable standing on a SUP and understand how to utilise hinging to increase the power in your stroke (if you’re not sure what this means, we can teach you!) Upon booking we will share some training trips with you so that you can ensure you feel comfortable attending and paddling between 6-10km each day. Please note: we will only paddle 10km on the good weather days, if it’s mega windy or challenging conditions, we won’t force you to paddle 10km! We’ll do a shorter paddle, perhaps a down wind paddle and then radio the boat to help us when we need it! As always, you’re welcome to switch between standing, kneeling and sitting on these paddles! Prior to this trip you should have experienced paddling 3 hours in one go.

FITNESS LEVEL
(She SUPs trips range from Level 0-4 in Fitness Level):

Level 3: A good level of fitness is required to enjoy this highly active trip. We will have two very long paddle days and we’ll be exploring the island by foot and by SUP. As this is an expedition style trip, there will be plenty to do around camp so expect to be active every day.

OUR SUP EXPEDITION:

This trip starts with 2 days based in the town of Wanaka, allowing the group to get to know one another, relax into the easygoing kiwi way of life and prepare for our adventure ahead. On day 3, we commence our SUP Expedition!

What is a SUP Expedition?

A SUP Expedition is a multi-day paddling adventure where you carry everything you need (camping gear, food, water) with you, camping along the route. It's less about distance or speed and more about self-sufficiency: you're moving through wild, often remote places under your own power, sleeping wherever the paddle takes you...

This trip is an ‘introduction’ to Expedition Paddling, as we’ve added a few comforts to make your life that little bit easier, especially if it’s your first time going on an adventure like this!

  1. We’re boat supported, so that you’re not carrying your camp gear - the boat is!

  2. We're fully catered, so you won't lift a finger for camp cooking. Sit back and enjoy hot dinners every night and picnic lunches during the day, with a constant hot water/coffee station on hand whenever you need a caffeine fix.

  3. We have a fixed camp location, so once you're set up, you don't have to move. There's so much beautiful paddling to explore in the area, we don't need to relocate camp to find it.

  4. NEW for 2027… you don’t have to sleep in a tent! After receiving numerous emails from paddlers who aren’t keen to sleep on the floor of a tent but wanted to experience the magic of paddling in New Zealand, we have now added a trip (departing 7th Feb) that doesn’t involve camping in a tent! See below for more info.

We have been running this expedition since 2022 and hosted many paddlers who have NEVER camped before, or have never been on an adventure like this. Thanks to our expert team, and supportive ‘girl power’ environment, we promise you’ll be well looked after and leave the trip with new skills and endless new stories for your friends!!

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ...there are not enough superlatives to describe how amazing this trip is. From gorgeous luxury accommodation to camping under the stars on an island. Paddling on the spectacular Lake Wanaka to hiking up to the lookout to enjoy the sunrise. Taking a dip in the chilly water to relaxing in a private onsen. It’s a trip of contrasts yet each element combines to make for an epic experience with other likeminded amazing women. An absolute bucket list trip.

Where we are staying

During this trip we will have three bases. We start with two nights in private accomodation in the heart of Wanaka (pictured below). This accomodation is a mix of twin share rooms and private doubles (only 2 available) and the best bit - EVERY room has an ensuite!

We will then spend three nights camping on Lake Wanaka, for our SUP Expedition (more on this below!)

Our final night’s accomodation will be at the iconic Cardrona Hotel (same room configurations as Wanaka). The Cardrona Hotel is one of New Zealand's oldest and most iconic hotels. Its rustic charm, spectacular mountain setting and rich history make it a must see… and don’t get me started on the food!! I’m hungry already just thinking about it!

Room Allocations for all accomodations

The majority of the group will enjoy twin-share rooms (included in price), however if you’d like a private double room, there are two available per trip. These rooms will be allocated on a first come, first served basis at time of booking.

+ $600 for Private Queen/King Bed Room + ensuite (in Wanaka and Cardrona)

NEW FOR 2027: CHOOSE YOUR CAMP!

As mentioned above, this trip features 2 nights camping under the stars. In 2027 our classic NZ SUP Expedition will come in two camp options - our Original Remote Island Camp that we have been visiting since 2022, or our new Cabin Camp (also referred to as our Mainland Camp). Both trips will paddle the same routes, have the same pre- and post- expedition activities and accomodations, however the two camps offer different benefits for different kinds of adventurers.

Trip 1 (departing 7th February) New Zealand SUP Expedition: Cabin Camp

For 2027 we are introducing our Cabin Camp to provide an alternative to our Remote Island Camp.

Main draw of this camp: Cute shared wooden cabins with bedding provided, proper toilets (in a toilet block) and hot showers. If you’d prefer not to share a cabin, private tents are also available (no additional cost for cabins or private tents on this date).

Our Cabin Camp is a water-facing public campsite, scattered with small cabins, and tree-lined secluded areas where we will set up our camp kitchen and chill out area with our camp shelter. Expect cosy picnic rugs and chairs and a 24/7 tea and coffee station! We are so excited to try out this new format which will open up this trip to more paddlers who aren’t so keen to sleep on the floor of a tent!

Trip 2 (departing 14th February) NZ SUP Expedition: Remote Island Camp

This is our original itinerary that has been running successfully since 2022. We adore this spot!

Main draw of this camp: the idyllic remote location and proper tent camping. Our own island, surrounded by mountains and only accessible by water meaning barely any other visitors, and incredible views from every corner of camp!

Our team sets up a full camp kitchen and chill-out area with chairs, picnic blankets, and shelter. The only physical facility on the island is a drop toilet but with so few people using it, and our team cleaning it daily, it stays in great shape.

Want to understand the differences between the two camps? Download the Trip Brochure to see both side by side!

And after spending 3 days, 2 nights on expedition, there’s no better feeling than enjoying an amazing soak in our own private Onsens with this view!!
