FAQ’s

What should I wear for SUP?

We like to recommend leggings/shorts and a t-shirt or rash vest as the perfect paddling combo. If it’s a nice day, wear swimmers underneath so you can swim if we discover a beautiful swimming spot. Alternatively, if you're certain you're going in the water and worried about getting cold, go for a wetsuit! We normally paddle barefoot but reef shoes or thongs/flip flops are encouraged when getting on/off the SUP at launch locations.

What do I need to bring?

  • Clothes for paddling (as mentioned above)

  • Clothes for after (in case you get a little wet - bring something warm)

  • Sunnies (with a strap if you can)

  • Sun hat

  • Sunscreen

  • Drybag (if you have/want one - I can look after valuables like keys)

  • Water bottle

  • A sense of adventure!!!

Is there somewhere I can leave my bags?

Yes! At our Manly location we can lock your bags in a container at the launch site (by the old aquarium). At our Tunks Park location you can lock your bags in our/your car. All bags left at your own risk.

Facilities available e.g. toilets?

Manly - Our Manly location is right next to Manly Art Galley & Museum. There are toilets right next door, and the wharf is close by for access to tap water and shops.

Tunks Park - Our Middle Harbour location has parking (but gets busy on weekends), toilets, water tap and a grassy area (where we meet). There are no cafes/shops near the launch location as it is a park, so please bring everything you will need with you.

Do I need to book online?

Yes you need to book for all sessions to secure your spot.

She SUPs Community paddles are booked through MeetUp [link here]. She SUPs Lessons, Regular Weekly Paddles and Adventure Tours are booked online on our website [see ‘Book Now’ button below!]. We encourage online (rather than phone bookings) as we are often out on the water and cannot take phone calls during our Adventure Tours or Lessons. However, if you’d prefer to book over the phone, please call 0421 298 844 and leave a voicemail and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

What if I haven’t SUP’d before?

Then we feel privileged to host you on your FIRST SUP experience!! We promise you’ll love it! There are two places to start, either a She SUPs Social with our community or a SUP Confidence lesson (private or group available). Our She SUP Social paddles are a safe, supportive space to get a taste of SUP surrounded by women who have been in the exact same boat. They are short sessions (normally 60-90 mins) in our most popular flat water locations around Sydney. The pace is always super slow (as we’re chatting so much!) so it’s a nice informal way to learn to paddle.

Alternatively, if you’d prefer more formal instruction, join us for a SUP Confidence Lesson. These sessions are for anyone who wants to gain more confidence with SUP. We’ll start with the basics, how to stand, kneel, paddle, turn etc. But we’ll also empower you with knowledge about weather conditions, choosing the best SUP for you and caring for your SUP.

What if it’s raining or windy?

She SUP’s sessions will be cancelled when wind is forecast over 12 knots or a storm is forecast. We are happy to paddle in a little rain (Vikki, founder of She SUPs is British so feels at home in this kind of weather!) however our instructors check the wind, wave and tide forecasts several times a day and will always cancel if it looks unsafe. In the event of cancellation we will attempt to reschedule for a later date. This decision to cancel due to weather is generally made at 4.30pm, the day before each tour (after the final weather report for the day). Please see our cancellation policies [here] for more details about weather cancellations. Participants must assume the paddle/lesson/tour is going ahead if they do not hear from She SUPs otherwise.

Is there parking?

Yes! There is parking at both of our locations.

Manly - there is sometimes on road parking, next to West Esplanade. If no space available, you can try some nearby roads or head to one of the multi-storeys in central Manly.

Tunks Park - there is plenty of parking here, but it can be extremely busy on weekends during Summer. Please aim to arrive 10-15 mins early if parking here during Summer.

Can I bring my own SUP?

During She SUPs Adventure Tours and SUP Confidence Lessons you cannot bring your own board (for insurance reasons).

You can bring your own SUP to our weekly regular paddles at Manly, but you do so at your own risk and please bring $15 cash to contribute to the running of the paddle.

We also run the She SUPs Community with monthly and often bi-monthly Community She SUP Socials. At these paddles BYO is encouraged, and it’s a great opportunity to meet and connect with other local paddlers who have their own board.

What if I cannot make it?

If you need to cancel or reschedule to another date, firstly check out our refund/cancellation policies here, then send us an email or give us a call to discuss the next steps.

Can I paddle with my dogs/kids/other animals?

During She SUPs Adventure Tours, SUP Confidence Lessons and She SUPs Regular Sessions you cannot bring a dog, other SUP-loving animal or child to be on your board. Please get in touch if you’d like a child under the age of 18 to attend. However we also run the She SUPs Community with monthly and often bi-monthly Community She SUP Socials. At these paddles you’re welcome to bring children, dogs and other animals at your own risk, and all children attending must be able to swim 50m and are your sole responsibility.

How do I know I’m in the right place when I arrive?

At Tunks Park, we’ll most likely to be easy to spot as we will have a fleet of purple Red Paddle Co boards. Your instructor will also be wearing a She SUPs branded t-shirt, rash vest or jumper. At Manly, head to the old Manly aquarium and you’ll soon be joined by a group of excited, SUP-loving women… and then you’ll know you’re in the right place!!

Do you take private bookings for groups/corporate groups/birthdays/hen parties etc?

Yes! If you would like to organise a private paddle, special event or corporate booking for groups of up to 8 people, please email vikki@shesups.com.au with the details of what you have in mind. Please note include number of paddlers, time and date preferred and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
