Let’s do this a little differently.
Mothers Day is approaching, and I know for many who have lost a Mum or aren’t Mums when they wish they could be it can be a difficult time. Having lost my Dad as a kid, I sometimes struggle with the fuss made around Fathers Day, so if this is you, I get it.
So to start this blog I want to reframe who this Gift Guide is for. I googled lots of definitions around Mother (as it’s also a complex word) and I found that; Mothers give birth to something, they love something, they raise something, they support something grow. So if you have birthed an idea, raised an animal, helped a plant grow - you are a Mother and deserve to be spoiled this Mother’s Day!
So this is a gift guide for:
Dog Mums / Cat Mums / Other animal Mums / Plant Mums / Business Mums and of course, Human Mums!

SUP Experiences

Electric SUP Pump
How good is an electric pump??? Sip a coffee or eat your breakfast while your pump does all the hard work this Mothers Day!! Many SUP brands don’t offer their own branded electric pump because electric pumps can be unreliable. They often overheat and die within a year of use (which for a SUP brand, would result in hundreds of warranty claims… which is why they avoid selling them!) I have tested out the most expensive pumps on the market, and the cheapies. I had ALL my hopes set on the super expensive one, and yet the one that has lasted the longest is a no-brand one from Amazon! The one that I have had for 2 years and have just invested in again after the first one died is the Seamax Pump from Amazon. It’s a decent price, and so far - has proven to be a good egg (plus has over 1000 reviews so it’s not just me who thinks so!). The black version (no brand) is for some reason is $50 cheaper, but I’ve seen them in person and they’re basically the same product, so pick whichever you fancy but I’ve always stuck with the Seamax for some reason… maybe I just like blue!
Lockable roof rack straps
These are probably one of my BEST ever investments. Kanu Lock straps are my FAVOURITE roof rack straps because they are LOCKABLE! Please note, you should never leave your SUPs on your roof in the sun as they can burst if an iSUP or become seriously damaged if a hard board. However if you park in the shade, you can pop to the shops in confidence with these lockable straps keeping your SUP safe and secure while you’re gone.
Coolbag backpack
I’ve road tested a few of these cool bag style dry bags, including ones from Anaconda and from Red Paddle Co, and I have to say the one I use every day (and get the most compliments on) is the Red Paddle Co Cool Bag Backpack. If I opened this on Mothers Day I’d be one happy paddler! Because of it’s convenient shape and size, I also end up using it as a standard dry bag - not just for food! I quite often will throw a jacket or jumper in there too.
Change Robe for Cooler Months
We’re deep in Autumn, and Winter’s cool breezes are coming through, but the passionate paddler is one who knows that the best is yet to come in terms of SUP weather. However one thing that makes those cold mornings just a little easier, is a warm hug given by a fluffy change robe! I love these ones from Red due to their MEGA cosiness levels and their amaaazing colourways. I own the Teal one (as pictured above) but I think I may have to get the Mulberry Wine or the Hawaiian Blue too as they are just so delicious!
She SUPs Luxe-Jumper
Along the same lines as the change robe above, now is the time of cosy winter paddles rugged up with the best warm SUP gear - and I’m proud to say that the She SUPs Luxe-Jumper (which is fleece lined by the way!) is becoming a staple for many female paddlers. I guarantee this will bring smiles on Mothers Day! Being fleece lined it’s the BEST thing to pop on when there’s a bit of a chill in the air and you want to take the cosiness of your warm bed out on the water with you! Tried and tested - it works.
So there you have it! 6 ideas to bring a smile to any mother-type SUP-loving souls this Mother’s Day. Don’t forget to consider your gal pals who perhaps don’t have anyone to buy them something on Mother’s Day or don’t consider themselves as ‘Mothers’ in the traditional societal sense.
